RL317
Hey guys, I'm planning on buying the XR500 to see if it will resolve continuous issues Ive been having in FIFA and now FIFA 18 (XBOX ONE). Input lag / button delay in FIFA seasons / pro clubs. Will this router fix these issues or make it better? I appreciate the help I think the issue is with core gameplay, ie not a networking issue. I played online for the first time on FIFA with 17 and it was ridiculously bipolar. One minute it's smooth and responsive, and the next it's like you're on a 500ms host or trying to play drunk through a projector or Remote Play through a phone. Played a few games online in FIFA 18 and it's much of the game. Even when forcing <30ms games it's more like 300ms of real latency, as if the game is struggling to process information or something. I've always seen the same playing a friendly with a mate, which is easily the most online gaming I've done on FIFA. If I'm host he gets rekt, and if he's host I get rekt. He lives 60 miles from me, we're both on the same ISP, we can ping each other in around 6ms and yet whoever is host absolutely dominates while the other feels like they're stuck in mud. Tbh I've seen bipolar games even on career mode. Weird input lag feeling, hard to explain, but it's like AI players have a force field around them if you try to outmuscle with a far stronger player, and turns/tackles can be obnoxiously sluggish. I saw this yesterday when playing Hertha Berlin with Schalke - struggled to get through on goal and finish because poor AI defenders supposedly were faster and more reactive even though I was playing the same as always. Next game I beat Chelsea 5-0 away in the Champions League? On legendary? Um yeah okay then LOL Went off on a slight tangent but tl;dr - I think you just have to hope you get host so you don't deal with the game's (in)ability to process packets efficiently. Games play like you're on 10 to 20 times the real latency otherwise. Plus matchmaking is piss poor (Saudi to the UK is more common than anything else)... The R1/XR500 should help here as you could get a strict radius/latency cap and this would make it easier for the game to either pick a host that's suitable, or give you host, thus filtering out the crappy games. I just can't say for sure because I've played maybe five "real" (not friendlies with my pal) online games through all FIFAs combined, and I've played FIFA on and off since 97 so that should give you an idea of how much I dislike online FIFA gameplay lmao

Input lag / button delay in FIFA seasons / pro clubs. Will this router fix these issues or make it better? I appreciate the help Hi Ghost, The two main causes of network lag in FIFA are: 1. Where the other player is located - the further they are from you, the laggier it will be 2. Devices on your network causing you to lag DumaOS on the XR500 will fix both. The Geo-filter will prevent anyone connecting to you who lives far away. You can see this in action on the Netduma R1 here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=3cZGdhNUQZY We also have an ‘Allow & Deny’ feature which will allow to block laggy players you come up against, so you’ll never have to play them again. As for other devices causing problems, our QoS toolkit will completely solve this. You can see a video on how this works here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Zj02rkHCwSI Let me lnow if you you have any other questions!
Mr Ghost
Thanks guys. I appreciate it. I have spoken to EA support many times and based on the OU trace test results they blame my ISP as the problem LOL. I will buy the XR500 in the coming weeks and see if it will fix issue...fingers crossed.

Mr Ghost
Hello. I had a quick question - my XR500 will be here in 2 days. I mainly play pro clubs on FIFA. If I join a club and have the Geo-filter set to the U.S will I get disconnected if the captain finds a match outside of the US? or should I just not use Geo-filter in those situations? I appreciate the help
Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 15, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 15, 2018 Hi Mr Ghost, I tested FIFA yesterday so the way it works is if you block a connection outside your radius you will need to search again until you get a game within your radius. As far as I can tell this does not have any negative consequences.
Mr Ghost
Ok good to know. So if I join a random club based in EU region and the Captain is from the UK and searches for a game / finds an opponents in the UK. Will I get disconnected from the match since its outside my radius?

Will I get disconnected from the match since its outside my radius? If your radius does not encompass that region/area then yes it would. If you're playing with other people you need to be the party leader to use the Geo-Filter otherwise turn it off if you're just in the party as you may boot yourself. Mr Ghost
Hi Fraser, Ive received my XR500. So far its been amazing. In regards to FIFA pro clubs, I tend to play with people in the UK usually (clubs are set to the EU region). As for distance, since I'm in the US to UK average ping is 150ms and its a bit difficult to play. I disabled Geo-filter so I don't get kicked when finding a game lol but what Ive noticed is that when we play "home" games, the ping comes down to 25ms (connection is amazing) but then goes to 150ms on "away" games. Have you experienced this or any recommendations? I appreciate it
Administrators Netduma Admin Posted February 17, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 17, 2018 Hi Ghost - great to hear it has arrive and that you are enjoying it. We haven’t tested FIFA fully yet, but I thought for Pro clubs - you should be able to use the geo-filer to guarantee another US player. I believe what usually happens is if the game tries to match you with a player outside of your radius it will send you back to the lobby, where you can then search again. Is something different happening for you? As for home/away - is the location of the other player (or server) changing each time?
Mr Ghost
Hi, In regards to pro clubs. You play as a team and each member selects a position on the club. You basically join a club that was created by someone. In this example, a person in the UK, created the club and based on their region it will set their matchmaking setting to the EU servers. When I join that club, since the host (captain) is from that region, he will tend to find matches in the EU region so then ping will go to around 150ms from my end. I can see the peer connections on the map and its in the UK (away games). When playing home, the peer connection is in the US (25ms) so the connection is perfect for me. Sorry if I'm confusing you. I have to do more testing:)
Mr Ghost
As for home/away - the location of server changes each time. Ive been denying some of them so it bypasses it when searching more games
Administrators Netduma Admin Posted February 17, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 17, 2018 Ah ok - that makes sense. I got it confused with Seasons. For Pro Clubs then you’re best off disabling the Geo-Filter as you’ll have no control over the host location. For Seasons you can disable it. Does that answer all your questions? Mr Ghost
yes that's pretty much it. I will do more testing to figure out the home/away game scenarios. Can you please bring this up to Fraser to see if he came across this issue? Thanks

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 18, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 18, 2018 Thanks! Do you think running the console as an DMZ will help? It will certainly ensure that you have an open NAT on your console and therefore are able to connect to more people online.

Administrators Netduma Fraser Posted February 19, 2018 Administrators Share Posted February 19, 2018 Hi Mr Ghost, I've figured out the cause. Firstly Pro Clubs uses 1 dedicated server that everyone connects to. In the US there seems to be quite a few incorrectly located servers which explains why you got games elsewhere. I have found some and will update their locations this week. If you find any where the ping is way too high to be from within the US let me know the ID and I can move it. Once we've moved enough you should find it easier to consistently get Pro Clubs games within the US.
Mr Ghost
Great! I will, thanks. Ive noticed that too. I will do more testing and keep you updated:) P.S - can I use the net-gear genie app to control my network remotely from work?

No it's not compatible with the XR500 as the interface has changed so much. We are working on a mobile app though. You can enable remote management in Settings and then access it from elsewhere if you would like.
Mr Ghost
Hi Fraser, I was just playing some pro clubs "Drop ins" and kept connecting to this host. If I try and block this host, no matches are found. High ping and slow game-play (input lag) . I cant seem to find a different host for some reason - only this: US - ID: df9fa36e3c7e9499 - average 95 ping
